Description
The entire theme of the book is presented in six chapters. The First chapter deals with the Introduction to Optical Networks, Virtual Topology. The idea behind this chapter is to carry out an optical communication system and the need of Optical Interconnects and Optical Networking. The major role of Optical Fiber in Optical Communication is explained by describing the wavelengths, frequencies, channel spacing, and wavelengths standard. The usage of Optical Transmitters, Laser Functioning Mechanism, Optical Receivers and Filters and the characteristics of Optical amplifiers are also explained. The usage of WDM components that are tunable with optical filters, star couplers and optical cross connects and add-drop multiplexer is explained. Introduction on Wavelength Division Multiplexing explaining its Physical and Virtual Topology on Optical Networks is presented. A brief introduction on Routing and Wavelength Assignment and Survivable networks is given at the end of the chapter.
